About Ian
I am a dedicated language instructor with a passion for helping students achieve fluency and confidence in English. I'm also a language learner myself, so I understand how it feels to be learning a new language, and the triumphs and challenges that come along with it. With interactive activities and personalized lesson plans, I strive to create a supportive, fun, and effective learning environment for everyone. My goal is to make language learning enjoyable and accessible to everyone.
I've achieved a high level of education, earning my Master of Business Administration (MBA) after completing my Bachelor of Arts and Science in Cognitive Science at McGill University, and working in hospitality and logistics within the technology industry for 6 years, including working at some well-known companies like Airbnb. These experiences, along with earning my TEFL certification (Teaching English as a Foreign Language), help me offer an advanced level of vocabulary and English proficiency for my students.
Education
TEFL Certification
Obtained the TEFL (Teaching English as a Foreign Language) certification to enhance teaching skills and gain a deeper understanding of language pedagogy.
Masters of Business Administration (MBA)
To build on my real world experience of working for 6 years in the technology industry, I pursued an MBA to round out my business knowledge, equipping me well to teach business English both from an academic and practical perspective.
Bachelor's Arts & Science Degree in Cognitive Science
Concentrating in Linguistics and Computer Science, I attended McGill University in Canada. The year I was admitted, McGill was ranked by QS University Rankings as the 18th best university in the world. Through my studies I gained broad knowledge of cognition from different disciplines, including Neuroscience, Psychology, Philosophy, and of course Linguistics and Computer Science. Some notable areas of study that help me with my teaching include First and Second Language Acquisition, Child Development, Phonetics, Phonology, Morphology, Syntax and more.
